Our Big Moving Adventure
Had to improvise a little after we sold the desk- but it was worth it!! That desk was one big beast that had followed us through too many moves. If I had to give it away I would have, but someone was kind enough to pay $10 for it.
Phil put the kids to work helping him clean out and pack up the shed
We had a beautiful 2 days for our garage sale and sold all the big stuff and even more of the small stuff than I had thought possible. However, I learned to put exact times on my signs next time. I had said Fri afternoon thinking I would pull the tables out at 1:00. When I arrived home at 12:30 from picking up Malia at school there were several cars at the house and some people were even in my driveway. Thankfully, some were kind enough to help me pull the tables out and a friend from church came to help me through the rush.
We realized after the moving truck was empty, it was a great place for the kids to hang out. They thought it was fun and once we pulled the ramp up, the little ones were stuck and couldn't escape.
We also had beautiful weather on moving day and wonderful help from family and friends.
Phil & my dad blowing their lungs out trying to get a couple of air beds blown up for our last night in our house. Our outline of our old waterbed was still visible in our carpet 6 years after we had gotten rid of it. Oh my, that is another item that brought back memories from other moves. Phil & I laughed remembering one of the times when we had it "mostly" emptied and tried to roll it out our patio door at an apartment to empty the rest. Let's just say we were lucky to not end up totally flooding the apartment the night before we moved out.

Our table for 4 but we used it for 6.
The view out back, one of the mornings shortly before our move. We will miss the pretty view. Actually, it was kind of surprising that after 10 years, it was still farmland with all the new home construction in our area. Well, we have been saying we needed to move for 3+ years now and it finally happened. I wish I could say that it was all just a big adventure to me but I don't really like getting out of my comfort zone so this was a stretch for me. We did need more room and less driving, so the move was necessary, but getting through the process was a bit daunting for someone who doesn't like a lot of change. We were professional movers our first 7 years of marriage with a total of 8 moves under our belts. After purchasing our first house in 1998, we stayed put for 10 years, had 4 kids, and accumulated plenty of stuff. So, when it came time to pack up this time, it was a bit hard for me. However, my practical husband would remind me to think about the things that drove me crazy about the old house & the long drives. Our 26 foot truck proved to be enough to hold everything and we are now getting settled in our new place. It has felt very comfortable from the start but it will still take a little while for it to really be "home". We are so thankful for how God provided in many, many ways during the whole process.

Oh man! Those moving pics sure make me "re-feel" the emotions, stress and wearyness we felt just two weeks ago when we moved to Kansas. We're still not "home", since we don't have our own place yet, but it will come. Let me know if you need any furniture built for your new place. Once we get settled and shop is set up, that would be fun! A 3 hour one-way delivery wouldn't be too bad. Did your microwave cart make the move, or did it garner huge price at the garage sale? :) Sure hope we can see each other a little now that we're closer.
I love that truck picture. Who is that little rebel in the yellow shirt? :)
