Storms, Tree, & Mexican Coke

We enjoy the shade of our 2 large trees at this house, but have found out that with storms, there can sometimes be a downside as well. A couple of weeks ago there was a large limb that broke off the center of the maple tree but it also wedged itself so well that we could not get it down. One of our neighbors had offered a pole saw, so we took him up on it. He came over with hard hats, rope, saw & Mexican Coke.

Ok, a little rabbit trail here - according to him, when New Coke was introduced in the mid 1980's, it was all a big ploy to switch over Coke Classic to high fructose corn syrup as its sweetner instead of sugar because it was cheaper. In Mexico, however, they still make Coke w/sugar and that is the taste according to him, that we all grew up on. I don't know what all the facts are for sure, but I do know my Mexican Coke tasted fabulous.

Well after working at pulling that branch loose by various means, even tying it to the neighbors truck bumper, it just wasn't working so we called it quits. About 3 days later, it came farther down on its own due to some wind, so we were able to get it the rest of the way.

Then another big storm came through about a week later and knocked another one out on the opposite side of the tree.

We now have a big pile of branches on our back patio! This picture is before we trimmed the Oak tree too. We decided as long as we had the neighbors saw which worked so well, we would just trim all the low hanging branches on both of our trees. Soooo, now we are bundling them up in the allotted 6ft by 18in diameter bundles that our trash allows. We figure we might have them all out of here by the end of July! Hopefully!

Great story! I laughed. Glad you at least got your branches down.

Oh...and I loved the picture of my boys and Owen from the Blue Nile. So cute.
